Sari is a talented literature student who outwardly looks like controlled and confident self. Women envy the beautiful and intelligent Sari, men admire from afar for the same reasons. However, there is a beast lurking inside Sari that isolates her from the rest of the world. Sari suffers from epilepsy, a dreaded, often mysterious disease. The fear of new seizures keeps him on his toes all the time. When Sari meets Mikko Groman, a senior docent of general literary studies working at the university, she recognizes the same outsiderness in Mikko. Wandering in his own complex thought worlds, Mikko is at home only working with 19th-century poetry. In today’s performance-oriented world, surrounded by computers and camera phones, Mikko is a strange bird. Sari finds her equal in Mikko, but outsiders only see two people who don’t fit together in any way. Year of the Wolf is a film about forbidden love and overcoming one’s own fears.
