FC Venus

Anna (Minna Haapkylä) and Pete (Petteri Summanen) are a newlywed couple in love. Both are crazy about each other and the future looks bright. The only shadow in the relationship is Pete’s hobby: Pete plays soccer in the seventh division, a miserable but overzealous team. Men only play, watch and think about football. Anna, on the other hand, hates the whole sport. When the men’s football enthusiasm only grows, Anna angrily makes a bet with Pete: Anna threatens the women to beat the men’s miserable team by training for one summer. When Pete doesn’t believe, Anna gathers her own team of wives and girlfriends of the men’s team, which challenges the men to a match at the end of the summer. The stakes are high: if the women win, the men will stop playing and watching football altogether. If men win, women will never complain about men’s hobbies again. This is how the women’s team FC Venus is born. The film follows the women’s summer-long crash course in soccer. Although the women eventually learn what offside means, they also learn a lot about the worlds of women and men. Anna and Pete in particular have to think about what kind of game they have joined. Love is at stake as the stakes rise and the rules change.
