Miguel “Bayoneta” Galindez (Luis Gerardo Méndez) is a former professional boxer from Tijuana. He has been running away from his past for quite some time and ended up on the other side of the world, in the cold and light-abandoned small town of Turku, Finland. Miguel spends his days in Turku at Jyrki’s (Ilkka Koivula) boxing gym, where he coaches Remu (Joonas Saartamo) for a title fight. Even though Miguel has left the events in Mexico behind and he meets the Finnish Sarita (Laura Birn), his past does not let him go. The different place and culture drive Miguel to reflect on himself, and to move forward in his life, he decides that he must step into the ring one more time.
The movie was mainly filmed in Turku at the beginning of 2017. The film is a co-production between Mexican Woo Films and Finnish MRP Matila Röhr Productions. The producers of the film are Johanna Enäsuo (MRP Matila Röhr Productions) and Maria Jose Cordova and Rafael Ley (Woo Films). The film is supported by domestic funding from the Finnish Film Foundation, YLE, and the West Finland Film Commission. The Nordic rights to the film are owned by MRP Matila Röhr Productions.
